What are your favourite final sentences from books? Is there a book that you liked specially because of its last sentence? Or a book, perhaps that you didn’t like but still remember simply because of the last line?
There are many wonderful endings that have left me with a smile (or sometimes a few tears) on my face. Here are a few of my favorites...
- There's the wide-eyed innocence of Mark Haddon's The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time: "And I know I can do this because I went to London on my own, and because I solved the mystery of Who Killed Wellington? and I found my mother and I was brave and I wrote a book and that means I can do anything.
- After some worrisome events in Inkspell, the second book in Inkheart trilogy by Cornelia Funke, we are left with this optimistic message: "This story will have a happy ending. I swear!"
- In the context of the story, I thought Audrey Niffenegger's The Time Traveler's Wife, the final words are a sweet finish to a lovely story: "He is coming, and I am here.

The Time Traveler's Wife has been on my TBR for years, but I think I'm finally going to read it soon after hearing several rave reviews in the last couple weeks. That last line gives me great hopes for it!
The Time Traveler's Wife was a good ending, you're right! As with Inkspell, I'd forgotten about that one. I can't wait for Inkdeath to come out later this year!
Two of those three, Curious Incident and Time Traveller's Wife are on Mt. TBR and the third, Inkspell, is on the shelf in my library.

I loved The Curious Incident..., but I couldn't remember the last line. That's a really good one. Thanks for reminding me of it. :)
